Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine affiliated children's hospital (Class III Grade A), co-built by the Shanghai Municipal Government and Project HOPE, opened in 1998. 500 authorized beds (about 800 in operation). In 2010 it became China's first JCI-accredited children's specialty hospital, re-accredited in 2013 and 2016. Its pediatric cardiothoracic surgery department has performed 30,000+ congenital heart operations, now 3,500+ per year — the highest volume among children's hospitals worldwide; arterial switch operation has been performed as early as 6 hours after birth and at 1.7 kg, with over 97% overall success. The pediatric hematology-oncology center is among the largest in the world. Six national key clinical specialties.
