5G telemedicine enables cross-border surgical guidance
Shanghai Delta Hospital has successfully completed the first cross-border remote cardiac surgery guidance, another important practice of Chinese telemedicine in international cooperation.
Procedure and outcome
During the operation, a cardiac surgeon from the Cleveland Clinic in the United States provided real-time guidance via 5G high-definition video, while the medical team at Shanghai Delta Hospital performed the procedure on site. The surgery lasted about four hours, went smoothly, and the patient recovered well. The low latency and high bandwidth of 5G allowed the overseas expert to observe the surgical field in real time and guide critical steps, providing a new technical pathway for cross-border medical collaboration.
