World's first solid-tumor CAR-T drug approved in China
China's National Medical Products Administration has approved the world's first CAR-T cell therapy targeting solid tumors, developed by a Shanghai biotech company. The approval marks a critical step forward for cell immunotherapy, extending beyond blood cancers to the far harder-to-treat field of solid tumors.
Strong clinical results, clearly outperforming chemotherapy
The drug is indicated for patients with advanced gastrointestinal tumors. Clinical trial data show an objective response rate (ORR) of 42%, significantly outperforming conventional chemotherapy. For patients with advanced digestive-tract cancers who previously had limited options, this represents a genuine new hope. CAR-T therapy works by collecting a patient's own immune cells, genetically engineering them in the laboratory, and reinfusing them so they can precisely recognize and kill tumor cells.
